With as much power as a modern day V8 Supercar but with only
one-third the weight and racing on dirt oval tracks at speeds of up
to 160 kph, Sprintcar Racing is “the greatest show on dirt.”
Sprintcar racing is a total assault of the senses. To hear the roar
of the 850 horsepowerengines, smell the burnt methanol and feel
the ground shake as 18 of the winged monsters race around a
circuit you can see from one vantage point, is truly a unique experience.
In the early days of Sprintcar racing, world-renowned drivers
A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, Johnny Rutherford and Mario Andretti steered
the then-wingless wonders amid dreams of securing drives in the
famous Indianapolis 500.
The large aerofoil wings provide down-force to assist the huge
tyres in their attempt to grip the racing surface. The nature of
open wheel racing allows for the entanglement of race cars and
high flying accidents associated with this exciting form of motorsport.
Now a long way from its humble beginnings in America, Sprintcar
Racing boasts the fifth-largest auto racing tour in the world.
Sprintcar Racing has been described as” the last frontier of motor
sport” by American legend, A.J. Foyt. “There is nothing else like
it in the world”.
850 horsepower, 1300 pounds (590kg), 18 drivers racing wheel to
wheel on a dirt track oval at up to 160 kph. There is no second prize.
Many of today’s V8 Supercar drivers say that given the chance they
would jump at the opportunity to compete in a Sprintcar.
Over the past few years Sprintcar Racing has continued its increase
in popularity with drivers becoming household names due to the
expanded coverage in not only the motorsport but the mainstream media.
Sprintcar Racing is Xtreme excitement!
